Hey everyone!

We were really happy with all the people who came out to support us during the COLD & WET Loudoun County Fall Farm Tour last weekend.  It was great to see all our regular customers and then a TON of new people.  This was the first one I was able to hang out and talk to some of you instead of running around constantly so that was a good thing.

We still have stuff going on so here we go.....

This weekend is the LAST WEEK we will be at the farmer's market in Leesburg!!  We will not be attending the Winter Farmer's Market and then we will know later about the spring market.  DON'T LET THIS GET YOU DOWN!!!  What does this mean?  It means that you can come out to the farm starting in November from 10-3!  The only weekend we will open a little later will be November 21st as we will be butchering turkeys that morning so watch your email for that time.  We are still butchering chickens - so take note that you will ONLY be able to get them directly from the farm.

Next Saturday will be our 1st Annual Trick or Treat at Chicama Run event!  Free admission, hay rides, egg gatherings, free tattoos, pick-your-own pumpkin, the ever popular farm scavenger hunt and then from 2-4 we will have TRICK OR TREAT stations set up around the farm for kids to go get candy from!!  Make this a family event and we can't wait to see you all here. We are all excited about dressing up and can't wait to see everyone's costumes!

So what's going on this weekend??

The farm will open up after the market from 1-4 with the usual 10% off all non-sale beef, lamb & pork.  Then we will be offering the following sales:

Ground Beef - $4.50/pound
Loose Apple Sausage *A NEW CHICAMA RUN EXCLUSIVE MADE FROM LOCALLY GROWN APPLES (and of course our pork)* - $4.00/pound
Delmonico/Rib-Eye Steaks - $15.50/pound
Chorizzo - $5.00/pound
Andouille - $5.00/pound
Ground Pork - $4.00/pound
Flank Steak - $10.00/pound

Last but not least....

We have a couple of CHOICE B 1/4's available at the next pick up (which should be at the beginning of November).  If you are interested, please send me an email and I can send you a link to make the $50 deposit.

There are still a couple of openings for the steers that go to the butcher on November 16th so visit http://www.chicamarun.com/beef.html

If you have not ordered your turkey yet - do so soon so we don't run out http://www.chicamarun.com/turkey.html

And I promise you this is the last thing - we opened up a new "BEEF ONLY" option for the meat CSA for those who are not interested in pork.  So please go check it out and then email me with questions if you have any http://www.chicamarun.com/meatcsa.html

We hope to see everyone this weekend!

Thank you!

Well everyone, it rained Saturday and we STILL had a good turn-out...... Sunday was no rain, but a little windy and again faithful people came out. So the weekend wasn't a total bust in that respect! Unfortunately we were unable to do any hayrides because we would have gotten stuck thanks to all the rain we had. Sunday we were able to do a couple egg gathering tours for those brave enough to endure the mud in some areas.

LOTS of new people this past weekend! And we sold a TON of hamburgers on Sunday which I was thrilled to see.

We did some new things - the girls were giving away free tattoos, we had a farm scavenger hunt (big hit - even BEFORE they found out about the prize give-away!), and we had a pig and cow mascot show up! Tons of fun.

Now - we start planning for the Halloween event! Fingers crossed for good weather so the kids can trick-or-treat around the farm.

Ok - this is one of the busiest weeks we have during the year so I am sending this out a little early for everyone.

First off  - this Saturday and Sunday we are open from 10-4 BOTH DAYS!  We will be serving lunch (burger patties from our very own Black Angus steers!) and so much more.  Come out with the kids, participate in a scavenger hunt, gather your own eggs to take home, pick your own pumpkin, and take a free hay ride!  It's sure to be a blast and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone!

Some news:

1/4 & 1/2 steers - guys you are running out of time.... especially with this weekend coming up we are expecting to sell out.  This isn't something to put off any longer if you are interested so please get your order in BEFORE the weekend if you want to guarantee your spot.  http://www.chicamarun.com/beef.html

Next on the list - TURKEYS - yes..... this is the same situation.  Apparently we have been picked up by a couple of magazines as well.  Again, we expect to be selling out soon because of the farm tour weekend and the magazine exposure.  So please place your reservation soon!!  http://www.chicamarun.com/turkey.html

Ok - finally..... we added a new option this week to the meat CSA- BEEF ONLY.   You an now order this option online.  It is $50 retail of BEEF ONLY per pick-up (every 2 weeks) for 20% off.  This is an excellent option to add chicken and eggs to!!  Order soon as we have had a high interest level in this type of option and I'm sure it will fill up fast.  http://www.chicamarun.com/meatcsa.html

We do hope to see everyone this coming weekend!!  And let's all keep our fingers crossed for good weather!!!

Best wishes,

Ok - for our anniversary I bought Joe an electric smoker. Yeah I know - but you try to do all the chores we do and keep a smoker running at the correct temp!

So today, being the good wife I can sometimes be, I am cleaning out the freezer by smoking 3 (yes 3) pork shoulder roasts - YUMMY!!! PULLED PORK FOR DINNER!!!

The recipe I used as a rub:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup paprika
2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon pepper
1 tablespoon cayanne pepper
2 teaspoons ground mustard

I'll let you all know how this turns out!!

UPDATE: The kids LOVED it (a huge decider for me) - each had 2 sandwiches and no complaining!! We ended up going through 1 4 lbs shoulder roast with nothing left over. I was too tired last night so I put the other 2 in the fridge to cool down and I'll try and get them shredded and frozen today. If not - HEY LUNCH!!!

date Monday, October 5, 2009

Ok - I'm a little later today than I like but here we go!

We will be open tomorrow (Saturday October 3rd) from 1-4.  It should be a GORGEOUS day to walk around and visit the farm.  We will still be offering the 10% off all beef, lamb, pork & mutton when purchased on the farm.  This special is NOT available at the farmer's market.  We will have chicken available and eggs once again - I am butchering this afternoon.

Those on the email list are still getting a headstart for reserving turkeys - we will be opening it up to the public on Saturday at the market so be sure if you want a turkey you reserve it today.

Only about 25 left so make sure not to put it off for too long!!  They have been selling really well so far - so don't wait until the last minute for this one.

We decided to open up the selling of whole lambs.  We have 7 remaining so reserve yours early!!  They go in on November 6th and should be ready about 1-2 weeks after that!!

Finally - our NEW 2010 Meat CSA now is accepting reservations on-line!  Read all about it and sign up at:

Please email us with any questions about CSA - I have added a new "questions I was asked immediately" and even a savings guide to help you out.  You ARE able to order just the chicken and the egg option if you wish!!  Also - this does NOT mean we will stop selling 1/4, 1/2 and whole animals - so don't worry if you like to do that.  It also does not mean you will not be able to buy from us off the farm - we will still be offering additional individual cuts of meat.

We hope to see everyone out this weekend!!
